“Dream Trap” is a musical journey that explores the dualities of existence through the prism of St. Franck, a dreamer who finds comfort near his VU meter from his studio.
The song opens with the persistent ringing of the morning alarm, a stark reminder of the chaos of the world that St. Frank is reluctant to face. But he is too immersed in the realm of his dreams to free himself from it.
Mixed by Mike Fridmann (MGMT, The Flaming Lips, The Vaccines, Beach House) at Tarbox Studio, NY, the track notably attracted the attention of Brian Lucey (The Black Keys, Dope Lemon, Liam Gallagher), who mastered it. We then discover that St. Franck is on the other side of the world, literally immersed in the creation of his own universe and passionate about connections through music and his industry. Spoiler alert: a new St. Franck album with Mike and his father Dave Fridmann (MGMT, Tame Impala, The Flaming Lips, Mercury Rev) is in progress.
The term “Dream Trap” is an amalgamation of “Dream Catcher” and the Roland 707, capturing the paradox of being caught in "traps," where escape and reality become both liberating and a prison.
The duality of the song is revealed through its lyrics and melodies, oscillating between the dissonant tones of the waking world of an Oberheim Matrix 6 and the 90's sounds of the Roland JV1080, two elements representing part of the Bordeaux producer's toolbox, Frank Lada.
As the chorus rings out, there is a subtle challenge against the oppressive nature of the world at large, but a message of hope and inspiration for the losers who dare...
